Day in a Field

August 2nd, 2010 Comments Off

After work I arrived at Field Day in Victoria Park at 6pm to find many of the bands I’d wanted to see had already played. Sob. Steve Mason was on around 2.30pm someone said. Mount Kimbie who I’d heard great things about had been and gone. Double sob. So I consoled myself with pear cider and a turn on the crazy carousel which instantly lifted my spirits.

After that, the only way was up. Met up with old friends, made some new ones (shout out to the Norwegian girl who thought I ‘quite look like Dannii Minogue’). That said I did find the concentrated amount of bowl cuts in one place slightly unsettling. Nothing another cider couldn’t put right.

As for the music, The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble were a perfect sun-downer accompaniment, Caribou were cool and Phoenix really rocked it at the end (those French guys, or their PR, take gorgeous pictures – have a look on their blog). I didn’t have time to take many myself but I leave you with these two of Phoenix.

All in all I’ve had a brilliant birthday week. Thank you to everyone who made it.
